Growing herbs yourself is an excellent way of ensuring a continual supply of the freshest, tastiest leaves, roots and seeds all year round. Not to mention cost effective!
Most are easy-to-grow needing minimal care, if you have a sheltered sunny spot with well-draining soil you're set! Click the Thumbnail Images for step-by-step guides to growing your favourites...
Some of the above are annuals, but there are quite a few perennial herbs like rosemary, chives, thyme, mint and fennel. These will supply you with fresh tasty leaves and seeds year after year, though it's a good idea to renew or divide your plants every 3-4 years as they can get woody after time.
Another good thing when it comes to the majority of herbs and spices, they're fairly disease and pest resistant, which if you're just starting out, is another thing you don't have to worry about.
